Environmental noise constantly fluctuates - from a passing car, a dog barking, a plane flying overhead and many other sources. Several noise metrics exist to quantify fluctuating noise levels, including the equivalent-continuous sound level and the exceedance sound level. However, when one plans to perform an Operational Noise Compliance Assessment Study, environmental noise may contaminate the data.
